Diversity, Equity, and inclusion

Bridge Boston Charter School takes pride in our commitment to celebrating, affirming, and amplifying the beauty and brilliance of the remarkable diversity of scholars, families, and staff members who choose to be part of our family.  With almost 100% of our scholar families identifying as Black & Brown, we actualize the importance of championing culturally & linguistically responsive and sustaining programming, policies, and practices that uplift those we serve.

Since our inception, we have been on a heralding journey to become an inclusive, welcoming, and physically and emotionally brave anti-racist learning institution.  At Bridge, we take responsibility for developing anti-racist educators, our student success team, social workers, deans, specialists, and administrators who seriously serve our scholars.

In 2019, we adopted the 13 Guiding Principles of #BlackLivesMatterAtSchool, which was inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize nominated #BlackLivesMatter movement:

  • Restorative Justice

  • Empathy

  • Diversity

  • Globalism

  • Queer Affirming

  • Trans Affirming

  • Collective Value

  • Intergenerational

  • Black Families

  • Black Villages

  • Unapologetically Black

  • Black Women

We also serve as a brave space for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) scholars, families, and staff members.  We are a community of love, unapologetic and relentless, especially for those marginalized within the marginalized.  We are teaching our youth and each other how to demonstrate curiosity, empathy, and care in a world that can feel dark, cruel, and harsh towards individuals who live at the intersections of gender, gender expression, and sexuality.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. compels us to provide our Bridge Boston Scholars with an incomparable educational journey that positions them to probe and inquire deeply about the world around them: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.” They will benefit from learning and engaging in positive, respectful, and rigorous that push their thinking and make them smarter.

We want our Bridge Boston parents & guardians, their child(ren)’s first teachers, to partner with us by participating in discussions and activities that promote empathy, kindness, and a diversity of beliefs, traditions, and human experiences.  And for our community partners, we need your support in offering education workshops and resources and advocating on our behalf.

May we find ourselves emboldened to take intentional steps towards acceptance, equity, justice, and liberation.
